So... finally somebody came up with the idea that the old school controllers should be able to plug into the Wii Remote. Here is the first of what is likely to be many modifications of old school controllers to work with the Wii.
Here we have the inside of the Wii Classic controller. This is how the NES controller will be able to talk to the Wii Remote. The circuitry form this retro controller will need to be dissected in order to make the project work. After we do this, there is no turning back.
This is the inside of the NES controller. Since there isn't a whole lot of room inside the controller casing we will have to cut away the excess portion of the circuit board.
Here is the NES controller after it has been separated. The top portion has the actual buttons. It is the portion we are keeping. On the bottom half we have the circuitry form the NES controller. This circuitry does not talk to the Wii Remote; therefore we will be replacig this portion with the circuitry needed from the Classic controller.
This is the Classic controller's circuit board. The control chip is being separated from the rest of the board. The portion we are taking converts the button being pressed, which closes a circuit, to serial data which is recognized by the Wii Remote. In plain english, it is the "brain" of the controller. It will be replacing the "brain" from the NES controller.
Here is the Classic controller after it has been cut apart. There is really no going back now. The top middle piece is the brains of the whole operation. The bottom right piece is where the cable coming from the Wii Remote connects. That will have to be connennected to the brain chip.
Here we have the chips being soldered together. The green pieces are from the Retro controller and the brown piece is from the NES controller.
After many many hours the soldering is finally complete!!! Here we have all the parts which are contained in the NES controller. The cable leads to the circuit board form the Wii Classic controller. That circuit board is connected to the original circuit board form the NES controller.
